Rally on 25 February
Some 250 people attended a joint UCU and Students’ rally, starting on the Parkinson Steps. on February 25th. Our theme, of course, was ‘Defend Jobs, Defend Education’. We were delighted to have the support of the Wakefield NUT. After hearing from Malcolm Povey, local Association President, and a student representative, the Rally moved on to the Ziff Building and gathered facing the Council Chamber windows. After further addresses we moved to the Parkinson Court for a sit-in. This was a heartening and encouraging expression of the widespread support in and around Leeds for the stance taken by members of Leeds UCU and our students in efforts to defend jobs and education in the University of Leeds. We welcome members, students and other supporters to come to the next rally, starting in the Victoria Gardens in Leeds (here) at 1pm on 4 March. Speakers include UCU general secretary, Sally Hunt and UCU President, Alastair Hunter alongside Leeds UCU Officers and local MPs. Please make every effort to attend, bring your colleagues, your friends and family and bring your banners!
